Ep=mgh.

 Ep=mgh  Ep; Potential Energy  m; mass (kg)  g; gravity (N)  h; height (m)

 The formula can be used to calculate the potential energy an object will have.  Rearranged the weight, mass, gravity or height can be calculated.  Using the principle of energy conservation kinetic energy can be worked out.

 A roller coaster is stationary at the top of the first hill. The first hill is 500m above the ground and full the roller coaster has a mass of 2500kg. Calculate the potential energy of the roller coaster?

 Car A has a mass of 1000kg and is parked at the top of a 300m hill, car B has a mass of 1250kg and is parked on the top floor of a 125m parking building. Which car has the most potential energy?

 A 75kg sky diver is about to jump from a plane 2500m above the ground. What is the potential energy and kinetic energy of the sky diver before they jump and half way to the ground?

 A 55kg diver is standing at the top of a 15m diving board. Calculate the potential and kinetic energy of the diver at the top of the board just before they jump, half way down and just before the diver hits the water?
