“Our Attitude in Giving”
Presentation transcript:

Sermon 3 of 3 from the series “Stewardship ” Today’s text: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 “Giving with the Right Attitude”

 Formula for sowing vs. 6 “…sows sparingly….sow generously…” Only two kinds of givers in the New Testament Sow sparingly - scantily Sow bountifully- generously The real issue of verse 6 is this: Which sower are you? “Giving with the Right Attitude”

Grace requires more than law Law or grace? Which requires more? Sermon on the mount – grace leaves us with a higher standard than the law Our giving is then determined by our heart, not the law “Giving with the Right Attitude”

 Recipe for Giving vs. 7 “give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion…cheerful…” Giving is a heart issue Attitude is important “God loves a cheerful giver” “Giving with the Right Attitude”

 Standard for Result vs. 8 “…so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,” Fear – the truth of the scriptures always set people free Question: How much and how often should a believer give?

“Giving with the Right Attitude” To this day, regular, faithful, generous and joyful giving is a preservative against covetousness and the mentality of hoarding things for ourselves. We live in a materialistic society, one whose thinking is that whatever you get is for you. Covetousness is a terrible affliction; the Bible calls it idolatry. Sadly, some people have made idols of money and possessions. Let's ask the Lord to help us be generous, to be faithful, to have hearts to want to support the work of the gospel locally, nationally and internationally. Rusty Tardo

Here’s What I Want You to Do Which sower are you? Do you sow sparingly or do you sow bountifully? Attitude is important – God loves a cheerful giver. Ask God why it is you do not want to be a blessing to others by sharing that which you have been blessed with. Give according to your ability to give or better yet in proportion to how you have been blessed. If right now in your life you have but a little, then give in proportion to that, if you have been given much, then give in proportion to that.
