Aim: To see what snake dissolves better using a Bunsen Burner in the following liquids: Water, Vinegar, Lemon Juice and Salt Water.

Hypothesis: We thought that the vinegar would dissolve the snake the quickest using a Bunsen Burner. We also thought that it would dissolve between 20-30 seconds.

Apparatus: Allen's Snakes 100ml Beaker X4 Bunsen Burner Heat-Proof Mat Tripod Gauze Mat Stop Watch Metal Tongs Water Vinegar Lemon Juice Salt Water

Risk Assessment: Bunsen Burner: Be aware of flame Beaker: May get hot Tripod: Remains hot after finish Gauze mat: Remains hot after finish

Method: Step 1: Put a snake in each of the four beakers Step 2: Put the different liquids in each beaker (Water, Vinegar, Lemon Juice, Salt Water) Step 3: Have your Bunsen Burner, time table and stop watch ready Step 4: Place one on the four beakers on top of the gauze mat and light the Bunsen Burner Step 5: Record what you see every 30 seconds for four minutes or until you think the snake has dissolved Step 6: Repeat with the other three liquids

Observations and Analysis: Time: Water: Vinegar: Lemon Juice: Salt Water: 30 seconds 60 seconds Starting to melt 90 seconds Melting/bubbling Bubbling 120 seconds Melting Boiling Breaking apart/boiling 150 seconds Dissolving/bubbling Burning Dissolving Water turning yellow 180 seconds Blue water Bubbling a lot/green water Boiling/dissolving 210 seconds Almost gone 240 seconds Dissolved/Blue Water Dissolved/green water Dissolved/red water Not fully dissolved/yellow water

Conclusion: Our hypothesis was unproven. The snake dissolved in the water, vinegar and lemon juice within four minutes. The salt water however did not fully dissolve. To improve this prac we can change some of the variables which might determine how long the snakes do take to dissolves.
