Students in Camden Camden Housing Need Survey 30,423 students at Higher Education institutions in Camden Approximately 4,153 student households in Camden Camden houses 17 th highest number of students of the 33 London Boroughs Majority of students reside in the private rented sector

Providing student housing in Camden Not defined as either affordable housing or needs housing Exempt from affordable housing provision Windfall sites rather than designated housing sites Cannot be used as a replacement for affordable provision

Other policy considerations Not Lifetime homes but wheelchair standards BREEAM ‘very good’ rating 20% on-site renewable energy Biodiversity and green roofs Provision of public open space Design principles

Recent schemes and issues Light industrial site – Scheme amended to re-provide some B8 uses Office site – Applicant demonstrated the limited viability for continued office use Usage – Camden requested details of use in summer months to prevent usage as a hotel Occupation – Camden restricts occupation to students in full or part- time education in London institutions, and not sold as separate units.
