IRELAND Welcome to the land of Ireland filled with Myth, Trouble and History......

INTRODUCTION: IRELAND Ireland is tough country filled with lots of nature and wildlife. Ireland had an fascinating history to go with its famous and unique accent. as with every country it has had its troubles facing huge loses which have resulted in discrimination, war, violence as well as death. Ireland is place known for its beer, ruby, fields as well as its famous leprechauns which centre around the meaning of luck and the suspicious of being a myth. Ireland is project in it self as it is different, fascinating and funny which sums up MR RIELLY very well. Today I will talk about the nation of Ireland covering its history, music, language, religion as well as its people.

CULTURE: LANDSCAPE

MUSIC AND DANCE OF IRELAND The Irish tradition of folk music and dance is also widely known. In the middle years of the 20th century, as Irish society was attempting to modernise, traditional music tended to fall out of favour, especially in urban areas. During the 1960s, and inspired by the American folk music movement, there was a revival of interest in the Irish tradition. This revival was led by such groups as The Dubliners, The Chieftains, The Wolfe Tones, the Clancy Brothers, Sweeney's Men, and individuals like Seán Ó Riada and Christy Moore. Irish and Scottish traditional music share some similar characteristics. The Irish love to sing especially when they are drinking the famous Irish beer, GUINNESS

People of Ireland

But there's one who stands the test of time and who will always be remembered. No one knows for sure what this creature is or if it exits but its story has lived on for years.

Leprechauns and other creatures of Irish mythology are often associated with "faerie forts" or "faerie rings" — often the sites of ancient (Celtic or pre-Celtic) earthworks or drumlins. They usually take the form of old men who enjoy partaking in mischief. Their trade is that of a cobbler or shoemaker. They are said to be very rich, having many treasure crocks buried during war-time. According to legend, if anyone keeps an eye fixed upon one, he cannot escape, but the moment the gaze is withdrawn, he vanishes.

History of Ireland Birth: 10,000 BC Earliest settlers arrived in Ireland, in the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age period. They crossed by land bridge from Scotland. These people were mainly hunters.

400s AD Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. Patrick had been had been taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped to France where he studied to become a priest. He later returned to Ireland and successfully converted the people.

N.IRELAND & IRELAND declared separate countries! Confronted by escalating international condemnation of its war in Ireland, the British government under David Lloyd George sought to push through Home Rule, which had been shelved until the 'Ulster Question' could be solved. 'The treaty created the 'Irish Free State', which had 'dominion status' within the British Commonwealth.' The solution came in the form of the partition of Ireland into two parts under the Government of Ireland Act, which became law in May The six predominantly Protestant counties of Ulster would become the 'north', and the remaining 26 predominantly Catholic counties would become the 'south'. In this way Northern Ireland was created. Its parliament was opened by George V in June 1921, and immediate overtures to end the fighting in the rest of the island began.

N.IRELAND & IRELAND declared separate countries! The treaty split Irish nationalists. Despite great pains being taken in the Dail to resolve the dispute peaceably, a split in the IRA between pro- treaty and anti-treaty members led rapidly to armed conflict and then all- out civil war. Collins led the pro-treaty government forces, while de Valera leant his support to the anti-treaty 'Irregulars'. The bloody and bitter internecine civil war that followed would ultimately claim the lives of Collins and many other talented Irish leaders, but nonetheless result in a victory for the Irish Free State government. De Valera would subsequently rejoin the political process and help steer southern Ireland to full independence in In Northern Ireland, the IRA had begun a campaign of violence even before partition became a reality in In response, the Ulster Volunteer Force was revived and thus the new nation experienced sectarian bloodshed from its very inception.

* Living in Ireland now * Filled with lots of nature and wild life Known to be quite peaceful and friendly, especially their pubs. Peace declared The past is in the past

Literature For a comparatively small island, Ireland has made a uneven contribution to world literature in all its branches. Irish Literature encompasses the Irish and English languages. The island's most widely-known literary works are undoubtedly in English. Particularly famous examples of such works are those of James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and Ireland's four winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature; William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney.
