Percent Proportion Algebra

Objective Today you will use the percent proportion to solve problems. Today you will apply the percent proportion to real-world problems.

In a percent proportion, one ratio compares part of a quantity to the whole quantity. The other ratio is equivalent percent written as a fraction with a denominator of 100. part whole Percent 100 = is of “Is over of”

Find the Percent Twelve is what percent of 32? Words: twelve is what percent of 32? is 12 = p of 32 100 CROSS MULTIPLY!! 12 x 100 = 32p 1200 = 32p p = 37.5 So, 12 is 37.5% of 32

 YOUR TURN!  Set up a proportion and show your work! Fifteen is what percent of 20? 75% What percent of 5 is 12? 240%

Find the Part What number is 15.5% of 450? x = 15.5 100 You know your % = 15.5 You know your of = 450 You know 100 always = 100 You WANT to know your is = x x = 15.5 100 450(15.5) = 100x 6,975 = 100x 69.75 = x 69.75 is 15.5% of 450

 YOUR TURN!  What number is 11.4% of 330? 37.62 b) Find 15.3% of 425 65.025

Find the Whole Seventy-eight is 60% of what number? is = 78 60% of = ? 78 = 60 x 100 78(100) = 60x 7800 = 60x 130 = x So, 78 is 60% of 130

 YOUR TURN!  Thirty percent of what number is 63? 210 b) Forty-five is 3% of what number? 1500

Concept Summary Find the percent (%) Find the Part (is) Find the Whole (of) is = p of 100 is = p of 100 is = p of 100
