Aims of today… To raise awareness of different training methods  on-the-job  off-the-job  Induction – for new employees when they 1 st start work

Decide which method of training would be best in the following situations….

Methods of training On-the-job training – where an employee learns in the workplace how to do a job Advantages include: Familiar environment, equipment _and people Confidence through doing Easier to assess improvements Cost effective with training _ normally delivered by people _ from within the firm at no extra _ cost Disadvantages include: Instruction might not be to a _ good enough standard Bad habits may be passed on Often, lack of time means sub- _ standard training External trainers might not be _ familiar with the equipment

Methods of training Off-the-job training – any form of education that takes place outside of the workplace Advantages include: Specialist trainers can provide _ higher level of knowledge Can often lead to qualifications _ and motivate workers Can be a cheaper way of _ acquiring information and skills, _ the trained employee can _ feedback to work colleagues Disadvantages include: Instruction might not be _ specific to the requirements of _ the individual firm Can be expensive If done during work time can _ lead to a loss of productivity
