Situation Analysis – A Short Profile  The University Governing Council established CGDS as a Centre of Excellence for the interdisciplinary study of Gender & Development Studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on 13 th June, 2013;  The Centre was envisioned to promote gender equality, women empowerment and sustainable development through teaching, research, policy advocacy, conduct of specialized professional trainings and forging of international collaborations and networks with sister institutions and donor communities. 01/27/20163

Strength – Academic Programs  CGDS currently runs Academic programs at Postgraduate levels in: a)Gender and Development Studies b)Social Work  It also houses non-degree certificate programs in:  Gender & Development;  Gender & Health;  Gender, Human Rights and access to Justice;  Gender, Adolescent Sexually and Youth Development; and  Woman and Gender Studies. 01/27/20164

Strength – Specialized Professional Programs and Non-Teaching Services  The Centre has specialized programmes for professionals on:  Institutionalization of Gender mainstreaming in Academics, industries and Cooperate bodies.  Counselling Services  Training 01/27/20165

Strength –Research & Consultancies  The Centre has the mandate and capacity to engage in:  Forging international collaborations with Donor Communities and international funding Agencies;  Establishing Collaborations with Academic institutions within and outside Nigeria;  Mainstreaming of Gender database for EKSU & Ekiti State; and  Capacity Building on data management. 01/27/20166

Strength – Collaborations & Linkages  Local: CGDS has collaborated with the Department of Sociology to run postgraduate programs in Gender & Development Studies and Social work; and  International: CGDS has also signed an MOU with the University of Eastern Finland. 01/27/20167

Opportunities  Design and Development of Academic programs and Courses at Undergraduate level in Gender and Development & Social Work;  Float postgraduate programs in Gender and Development Studies and Social Work through Distance Learning programs;  Work with other Departments and Faculties to engender their Academic Curricula and Pedagogies;  Promote inter-disciplinary research on Gender issues, Social work and Policies;  Organise intensive workshops for key stakeholders; and  Forge collaborations & partnership with Government Agencies and donor Communities. 01/27/201612

Recommendations  Retention of CGDS as an Academic Centre of Excellence;  Engagement in collaborative research with both local and international sister Centres;  Filling of vacant Academic positions at the Centre;  Promotion of CGDS programs through the media and EKSU website;  Floating of CGDS postgraduate programs through the Directorate of Distance Learning to attract National and International candidates;  Running of CGDS Short Courses and Intensive Training programs;  Organization of International Conferences; and  Smooth Completion of CGDS Building and relocation in preparation for NUC visitation of our Academic Programs. 01/27/201614
