Introducing…. Fortune’s fool? Fortune is another word for fate or destiny. At the end of Act III Scene 1, Romeo yells out that he is Fortune’s fool. Several terrible events (two people are dead and he’s been banished) have just occurred and Romeo played a key role in them. Now, he will have to face the consequences. Romeo feels that his life is over and that Fortune (fate, destiny, or maybe even God) is laughing at his misery. Is Fortune laughing at him? Should Romeo blame Fortune or should he take responsibility for what happened?
