Functional Skills at Rawlett Community Sports College February 2011

The Context   Rawlett is a specialist sports college   Years 7, 8 and 9 have XX curriculum days per academic year on cross–curricular themes such as …..   PLTS is closely linked to the school curriculum at KS3

The Structure Prior to Day   45 minutes session with form tutor on team building skills and the proposition. Enrichment Day   6 x 30 minute input from teaching staff on a carousel   2 hour afternoon session where groups worked on their task. Follow up   45 minutes session with form tutors where pupils showcased their work

The Proposition These days, ‘modern life’ can mean that we’re a lot less active. With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience food available, we don’t move about as much, or eat as well as we used to. 9 out of 10 kids today could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies. This can cause life- threatening diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
