AP STAT MOUSE

I. Exploring Data20-30% II. Sampling and Experimentation10-15% III. Anticipating Patterns20-30% IV. Inference30-40% The AP Test now blends the topics so a topic may be covered more than once on the test!

 Rich context  Formulate and test hypotheses  Be willing to discuss what you are seeing  Be willing to be wrong  Be precise and communicate ideas fully  Be able to communicate as if you did not have a calculator at hand  Be able to define all symbols clearly

 How to use our book  What we use statistics for in real life

Make sure to always answer the questions in the context in which they are given!! Ask the 5 W’s(who, what, why, when, and where)

Cases - represent what we record characteristics of. Respondents - people who respond to surveys. Participants(subjects) -People who we experiment on. Experimental units -things we experiment on.

Variables are characteristics of each individual we study. Categorical variables are things we put into Quantitative variables are things we can Identifiers are things linked only to one individual. categories. measure.

1. The name of the manufacturer of a TV set 2. Social security number 3. The major area of study for a college student 4. Your height in inches 5. Book barcodes 6. Length of your foot

Various studies have attempted to rank cities in terms of how desirable it is to live and work in each city. 1. Describe five variables that you would measure for each city if you were designing such a study. 2. Give reasons for each of your choices.

1. Think about the question we want to answer. 2. Don’t assume variables with units are quantitative variables. 3. Always be skeptical.
