Desensitized to sin? Violence Sex Anti-legalism Confession of sin Agreement with the Bible

Jesus is our New Covenant Sacrifice (“The blood of Jesus”) Old Covenant Sacrifice: 1.Unblemished animal 2.Take the animal to the temple and present it to the priest 3.Place your hands on the animal’s head and confess your sins 4.Watch as the priest would slit the animal and it’s blood would be shed for your sins

Problems with the Old Covenant: It was insufficient to forgive sins – Hebrews 10:4 People could go through the motions outwardly and not truly repent of their sins, worship, and love God in their hearts – Psalm 51:16-17 It was preparing and anticipating the coming of a New Covenant – John 1:29 The New Covenant – Jesus sheds His blood as the Lamb of God and High Priest who atones for our sins and brings us into this New Covenant (Hebrews 9:11-14)

Jesus is our Propitiation (Satisfies God’s Wrath) God’s holiness and sin: Does God get angry at sin? Does God hate sin? Does God hate sinners? What is the result? God’s Wrath (Rom 1:18, Col 3:5-6) – Passive (Rom 1:24) and Active (Acts 12:22-23) Jesus, on the Cross satisfied God’s wrath by taking it upon Himself – this is Propitiation (Romans 5:8-9, 1 John 4:9-10)

How can we respond to Jesus as our New Covenant Sacrifice and Propitiation? 1.Warning – John 3:36 2.Worship and Deep Gratitude 3.Conviction and Confession of Sin – 1 John 1:8-9 4.Pursue Holiness – Romans 8:13, 1 Peter 1:13-16
