Don't overuse special punctuation: As with rhetorical questions, you don't need to be creative with punctuation such as _______,,,,,,,,, , , or (parenthesis) Use your words to be creative and give powerful impact. Not with punctuation. It will seem unprofessional If you are not sure of the grammar, you can use ; instead of,

I agree that having a strong connection in your family is important because... Example on p.401 and 403

17 In text citation + works cited page Lucky Smith writes in The Hunting Diaries that “I think people should have the right to own a gun and go hunting, because it is an age old custom which can make us feel more natural. We also get the benefits from cleaner meat and good exercise in the forest; hunting is a way of life” (Smith p78). last name and page number Works Cited Page: Smith, Lucky. The Hunting Diaries. Berkeley, California: Berkeley Books, 2010.

18 When do you cite sources in your essay? When you’re talking about an idea you got from something you read. When you quote from something you read or heard. When you want to give the reader some places to look for more information.

24 Essay 3: Example Title: Video Games are The Devil Thesis: I don't think students need to use video games because they waste time, keep you from playing outside, and they will make your eyes bad. T1 The first thing about video games that disturbs me is that they can take away precious time from students T2 Secondly, I think students will not be encouraged to play outside if they have the latest games waiting for them at home'. T3 Last but not least, using games a lot will make your eyes bad Conclusion

25 Essay 3: Example Title: I Robot Thesis: In the future we must support our government to invest in robot tech and encourage their use in daily life because they are useful and trustworthy. T1 Robots are the wave of the future and we will need them to do all of our dirty work, even if some people lose their jobs T2 Robots will do the work that is too dirty, dangerous, or boring for us. Humans are more adaptable so I do not worry about us losing jobs to robots. Robots can also do things that we cannot do, such as fast calculations and will help make our world a better place. T3 We can trust them. The AI will not be too advanced in the near future, we do not need to worry about robots thinking for themselves and taking control of our society.
