A team …. Has two or more people Has a specific performance objective or recognizable goal Requires coordinated activity to attain the goal or objective

Team Development Wheel Teams typically go through a series of stages while learning to work together collaboratively Time in any one stage varies 4 Stages: –Forming –Storming –Norming –Performing

Team Effectiveness Pseudo-team –weakest of all groups –no interest in collective performance Working group –more effective, but focus is on individuals. No one takes responsibility for results of others Potential team –similar to working group, but not clear about group purpose, goals Real team –members have complementary skills; committed to common purpose; members accept mutual responsibility High-performing team –same as above, but members also committed to each other’s personal growth and success –transcend the team; outperforms similar teams; outperforms expectations
