Baking: Definition making food in the oven in dry heat without a cover. – Usually refers to pies, breads, cakes, cookies

Recipe: Definition Instructions and the ingredients needed for making food

Yield: Definition How much a recipe makes – Original Yield – Desired Yield

Preheat: Definition Heating the oven to the right temperature before putting in food.

Cost Analysis How much does the shopping list cost? – Add up the prices of each ingredient How much does the recipe cost? – Determine the price for each ingredient as listed in the recipe (divide the cost by what you need) How much does each serving cost? – Divide the cost for the recipe by the number of serving the recipe makes

Example Problem (copy down) Olive Oil: $6.38 for 17 oz – 6 X 17=102tsp in a bottle Multiply the number of ounces by the number of tsp in an ounce – $ = $0.06 per tsp Divide the cost of the food item by the number of tsp in the item – $0.06 X 2tsp = $0.12 for 2 tsp olive oil Multiply the cost of a single tsp by the number of tsp you need
