My Music Magazine- Questionnaire Results and Analysis, Mock up design and plan. Josh Robinson
Audience Research The target audience for my music magazine is young teens and people aged I am aiming for the DE demographic because this age group are usually unemployed, studying or have got a small or part-time job. I expect this target audience to be listening to different music as they are discovering who they are. The genre of music that my magazine focuses on is alternative rock or indie which is quite a popular music choice for my target audience’s age group. This genre of music has bands and groups, which connects to my target audience because most of them like to know the private life of their favourite bands and not just listen to their music. This nature of my target audience is also good because my magazine is a weekly one so they can continue to be in the know about their favourite bands private lives. The type of people this magazine is aimed at would wear casual clothes, might be interested in a sport or two and like programmes such as ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ and ‘Big Brother’. My target audience may also listen to radio 1 and watch comedians like Russell Howard, Lee Evans because they appeal to their sense of humour.
What my results show me Questions 1 and 2 are finding out the basic information of the people who took my questionnaire. The people who took the questionnaire are part of my target audience and so there was a balanced amount of males and females who took it and most were teenagers.
What my results show me Question 3 confirms that most teenagers don’t have a job at all or have a part-time job. Since I am aiming at the DE demographic, I expected most of my target audience to not be in full- time work. This also shows me that I shouldn’t make my magazine too expensive as my target audience don’t have a big, regular income. Question 8 asks specifically what price my target audience would be willing to pay and the most common was ‘£ ’ and I will use this result to determine the price of my magazine.
What my results show me Question 4 asks if they buy a weekly or monthly magazine in which 65% said they didn’t, which means my magazine has to be of a high standard and what the target audience wants to read. Question 5 asks what their favourite genre of music is and over 50% said Alternative Rock/Indie is their favourite type and so I am definitely making my magazine an alternative rock magazine.
What my results show me Question 6 is ‘What is your favourite alternative rock/indie band?’; this gives me an idea of what established bands I could mention on the front cover or in the contents page. Question 7 asks what my target audience want in a magazine and the most popular response was an exclusive interview, so I am going to include an exclusive interview in my double- page spread.
What my results show me Question 8 shows me what sort of price my target audience would pay for a music magazine. I will put the price of my magazine at the price which the majority of my target audience that took this questionnaire said they are willing to pay.
What my results show me Question 9 shows me that most of my target audience would ‘sometimes’ be persuaded to buy a magazine if there was a chance to win free tickets to a concert. This offer of tickets is a useful tool to entice people to buy the magazine as it is an extra incentive.
What I will do with results I will use these questionnaire results to make sure my magazine appeals to the right type of person and involves stories and little details that will catch the eye of my target audience. The questionnaire has given me more of an idea of how I can make it appeal to my target audience and not just who the target audience are. I will keep referring to these questionnaire results to make sure the little details are correct and relevant for my music magazine.
What my magazine will look like My magazine will have black header with white writing saying ‘The Middle Mag’ in it as that is the title of magazine. The main picture will be of one of the band members with a guitar in mid-air and drums on the floor. The cover lines will be interviews with a band and a certain quote that one of them say in it. The colours I will use for font and colour of little pictures etc will be white and blue and maybe red in places. It will say the price of the magazine is £1.99 due to the results I found in my questionnaire of what people are usually willing to pay.
Photographs I plan to take The main picture will be of one of the band members with a guitar in mid-air and drums on the floor. I am yet to decide whether I should take a picture of the drums or get one from the internet like I will do with my guitar.
