This is an this introductory course to Photography. You will learn the history of photography through the introduction of various artists and styles by critique. You will learn parts and functions of the digital camera. You will explore how to use the controls on the camera to alter shutter speed, aperture, composition, and light to create a picture as a from of visual language. You will learn the digital workflow through file types/management, storage and basic image manipulation using various computer software and apps. You will gain an appreciation for Photography while creating original works of art. You will also practice the skills to critique and evaluate artwork, maintain a weekly art sketchbook/journal, and participate in class discussions about the nature and purpose of art/Photography. You will work together to edit and take pictures for the RRMS Yearbook. You may have to attend a school event to take pictures for the yearbook. You will be required to take pictures for some homework assignments. Follow North Carolina Essential Standards.

You will be assessed in this class by 4 components commonly referred to as the “4C’s of Art”. Concepts: successful application of elements and principles, skills, media, process and techniques. Craftsmanship: careful, deliberate art-making, attention to detail, final presentation. Creativity: willingness to problem-solve, self-challenge, take risks and using your own ideas. Classwork: completion of work on time and according to project guidelines. Formal grades: 65% photo assignments/projects, tests, worksheets and written assignments/essays Informal grades: 35% Class participating, critiques, sketchbook/journals, warm-ups, worksheets, homework. GRADING SCALE: =A, 80-89=B, 70-79=C, 60-69=D, <59=F

Do you have your supplies ready? Pencils, erasers, sketchbook/journals, Folder, Homework Camera, storage card, chrome books Bring effort and positive attitude to each class! Follow classroom behavior expectation everyday! THE RAVEN WAY Respectful Responsible Motivated Safe

START Arrive on class on time and ready to learn. Walk in quietly and begin “Warm up” activity in sketchbook. Remain focused on your art! Cell phones are to remain OFF and put away, unless you are given permission for technology use with art. Follow Red-Yellow-Green Zones Always stay in your assigned seat. Raise your hand to speak and wait to be called on. Take care of ALL art materials. Be Safe- Be Smart! Restroom breaks are during your assigned time including water breaks. Participate in group critiques and discussion, share your ideas! NO GUM!!!!!

END Follow directions by your table supervisor. Clean up area and be ready 5 minutes before class ends. Check your area both on top and below your table/floors. Always write your full name, period and day on your art! I will dismiss you and each table that is ready. NOT THE BELL
