2007 Priorities Member Relations Incorporation Revitalizing the Website Pandemic Preparedness Planning Government Relations Issue Management Collaborative Action

#1 –Member Relations 2007 saw a drop off in Memberships Fewer renewals & no new members Current Services include: Website Quarterly Conference Calls Information Bulletins (as required) 2008 is seeing renewed interest, new members & indications of further growth Support from the members in recruiting new members is essential

# 2 – Incorporation & #3 – Website Incorporation Accomplished in 2007 – requires minimal maintenance but brings new responsibilities to the Secretariat & the Directors Website Revitalization Completed in 2007 New opportunities for communicating the Coalition’s messages Should it be expanded to include Members’ Only Section

#4 - Pandemic Preparedness Planning Industry/Government Subcommittee Solidly established Clear role for the Coalition – need new Co- Chair Management now primarily in AAFC’s hands Global Grippe recommendations/Workplan Build on momentum Regional workshops – survey to take place Agri-food sector strategy Continued work on industry plans Other activities?

#5 – Government Relations Current Situation Excellent past access to Co-chairs of CFISIG, FPTAFIC, FPTFSPC Expectation of access to new FPT Food Safety Committee Major changes at CFIA, Health Canada & AAFC on the food safety files – need to establish new linkages & awareness Our long-term objectives are still not priorities for Ministers or securely placed on the FPT agenda – but new opportunities will be available to present our case in 2008

#6 - Issue Management Growing Forward Initiative Are the objectives set in 2006/7 still valid? Or are there new ones? Food & Consumer Safety Action Plan Will there be opportunities for joint action through the Coalition on this federal initiative? National Food Safety Strategy Its status is uncertain? Other Canadian Initiatives - more to come! Other Initiatives (e.g. US Government & Congress)

#7 – Collaborative Action (1) Post-Farm Recognition Task Group Solid interest by industry groups Direct linkage to FPT subcommittee Funded opportunity to develop strong industry position

#7 – Collaborative Action (2) National Strategy February 7 th workshop Opportunity to bring supply chain together, identify gaps & opportunities Report could set Coalition’s agenda for coming years
