ABIOTIC FACTORS in the Environment Pages KQ LEFT, NOTES RIGHT- CORNELL NOTE FORM

Abiotic Factors The nonliving factors that affect living things.

1. Water - all life processes depend on water.

2. Soil - determines the types of plants that can live in a certain location.

3. Sunlight - provides energy for all living things.

4. Temperature determines the organisms that can live there. How hot or cold it is. Overall temp and how much it changes

5. Precipitation Rain, snow, sleet, hail How much, how often

6. Oxygen/Carbon Dioxide most living things require it to live. (respiration)

OTHER THINGS THAT AFFECT THE ENVIRONMENT Latitude Elevation climate

7. Latitude Lines of latitude Run horizontally (East to West) Tell how far above the Equator you are located Determines climate

8. Elevation How high above sea level you are located.

All Equal CLIMATE Longterm conditions of an area- precipitation, temperature, humidity etc… All determine the ABIOTIC factors in an evironment

Biotic Factors The living things in the environment. Ex: plants and animals.
