The Science Notebook Ms. Biavaschi’s Eighth Grade Science Class

Notebook Policies: Must be a composition book. Spirals get bent and can cause injuries, especially to me. Binders take up too much space.

Notebook Policies: Notebooks may be left in the room, but must be stored neatly, standing up, in the appropriate bin.

Notebook Policies: Leave notebook in the class every day. You will be entering things almost every day. You must keep up with it. If you are absent, get the make-up work from a friend or from the samples. You are responsible for the notebook’s contents, even if you were absent. The notebook is a big part of your grade.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the class brochure inside the front cover, on the left side. This is the guide for policies in Ms. B’s class. Pay attention to it, as Ms. B will hold you to it!

Directions for setting up your notebook: Start numbering the pages. Odd numbers go on the right side pages. Even numbers go on the left side pages. Do not skip pages. Never tear pages out of your notebook; if you need a sheet of paper, get one from Ms. B.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Carefully remove the staple from the packet. Trim each page to fit in the notebook. There are to be NO loose pages in the notebook.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the Hand Model onto the right side, just inside the front cover. This is page 1. You will refer to it often. Please color it to make it yours!

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the Table of Contents on page 2. There will be a new Table of Contents for each unit Begin filling it out. Unit Title: Beginnings Page 0: Class Brochure Page 1: Hand Model of Scientific Process Page 2: Table of Contents

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the “Costa’s Levels of Thinking and Questioning” page 3. Add it to the Table of contents. You will use this to ask your own questions this year.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the CERR Summary Template on page 4. Tape the Possible Connections for CERR on page 5. Add both to the Table of Contents. You will use these often this year.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Tape the Cornell Notes Template on page 6. Add this to the Table of Contents. This is the required format for note taking in Ms. B’s class. They may be checked and graded so be consistent and complete.

Directions for setting up your notebook: Keep your notebook here in the room. Be sure to keep your Tables of Contents up to date.
