Lesson 7-9 Precision and Significant Digits

Definitions Precision- a measure of exactness to which a measurement is made. Precision depends on the smallest unit of measure being used, or the precision unit. Significant Digits- All the digits that are actually measured plus one estimated digit. Significant digits indicate the precision of the measurement.

Identify the precision unit of the thermometer

Determine the number of significant digits in each measure. 5,000 ft oz

Find each sum or difference using the correct precision. 45 in in. 7.38m – 5.9m

Find each product or quotient using the correct number of significant digits.
