Changes in Laws

Substitutes & runners Injured striker can’t be ‘run out’ off no ball if – his runner is behind crease and – if he’s only out of crease to play at the ball and – if the wicketkeeper acts alone (‘stumping’)

Practise on field No practise on pitch or adjacent strips at any time On square: not within 30 mins from start not if umpires say it’s damaging square

Practise on field Outfield: – not within 5 mins from start/restart – not delaying match – no batting/bowling practise – nominated fielders only – match ball only – practise run-up allowed if not delaying match – throwing over arm allowed if not delaying match or changing condition of ball

Practise on field - penalties Fielders: can’t bowl for next hour or 30 mins of playing time, whichever occurs first Bowler in over: not allowed to finish over Batsmen: final warning, then 5 penalty runs

Scoring runs Out ‘obstructing field’: completed runs count unless obstructing catch Out ‘run out’: completed runs count unless injured striker is out of ground & considered run out Relay catch at boundary: 1 st player in contact MUST have started inside rope, if then 2 nd player finishes catch, they may come from outside boundary

‘Finn no-ball’ Not breaking wicket to run out non-striker From ball in play To stride after delivery stride finished – ‘Back’ foot now landed after delivery stride

Handled the ball Only striker when in receiving or immediately after receiving Out when defending stumps with hand not holding bat Not when avoiding injury Bowler doesn’t get credit All other instances now ‘obstructing field’

Hit the ball twice No runs allowed – Call dead ball after 1 st completed run – Batsmen returned to original end – Overthrow not considered – Ball called dead before reaches boundary – Ball hitting helmet of fielder: no penalty runs

Obstructing the field Now includes using hand not holding bat unless avoiding injury Wilful act by either batsman to prevent catch: striker out ‘obstructing the field’ regardless of who acted Completed runs count unless catch prevented (then no runs allowed)

New ball Multi-day where new ball may be taken after X overs – X.3 overs bowled and new ball taken that over will be completed but not taken into account to calculate when next new ball may be taken – 83.3 overs bowled, new ball taken (> 80 overs) next new ball available at start of 164 th over ( )
