Alphabetic Spellers: Sort 48 (Short o and or) for fox rot drop sock fork sheep corn shop fort rock pond spot born sort torn short sport trot storm horn word oddball work oddball your oddball

All these words have an “o”. When “o” comes before r, they do not have a short sound. These vowels have a unique sound and are known as r-influenced (or r-controlled). Word and work, are oddball words because they do not have the right sound. Your is an oddball since it has the same sound as fork but not spelled with an “or”.
