Do some Math Log into your student account. Make sure you are in ASSISTments school. Enroll in Turing: Formative Assessment Cycle Practice.

Objectives for this Class/Workshop We are about: Doing and Reflecting on Data Drive Instruction (of course with the help of ASSISTments) Teachers and Fellows will recognized the three components of a Formative Assessment Cycle Teachers will share their successes and failures in carrying out the Formative Assessment Cycle – Take Screen shots allowing you to share what you find on ASSISTments. Teachers and Fellows will try something new and report on their findings. (You may just get the new idea from someone else in the class or some of the readings.) Do some math in order to make sense of the decisions made in the Formative Assessment Cycle

The Cycle can move through two or three iterations depending on the situation. ObjectiveLessonObjective LessonAssessment ObjectiveLesson Assessment

Sharing / Assignments You can start your story at any point in the cycle it just needs to include details on how it fits into the Formative Assessment Cycle. These are the formats you will report in – Write a Story of what you did. – Create a Power Point of what you did. – Create a Poster

Formative Assessment cycle A Formative assessment cycle involves: 1.Teaching a lesson to achieve objectives. The lesson includes a planned assessment to check if the objective has been learned. 2.Assessment data is gathered and analyzed by both the teacher and the student. 3.New lesson is formulated in response to the data. A new objective may be formulated or the teacher and students continue to work towards the original objective(s). The teacher may adjust the teaching strategy. Then they need to be assessed again.

Cycle Plan – Objective – Lesson – Assessment Analyze – Teacher and Students look at data Plan – New or old Objective – Lesson – Assessment …

Your ASSISTments Plan Go to the PIMSE section on the WIKI. Find your name and click on it. Add as much detail as possible about your plan for using ASSISTments in class and how your Fellow will be a part of this Fellows help with screen shots of the school folder. PIMSE Expectations 1 Develop a classroom routine that incorporates ASSISTment and the fellows teaching. This will be highly personalized. – Example: Fellow works with students who do not demonstrate understanding of the learning goals. – Example: Fellows work with students who do demonstrate understanding of the learning goals. – Example: Fellows teach a lesson in response to data collected that hour or for homework. Each team of teacher and fellow will determine which classes he or she will work with on a regular basis.

PIMSE Expectations 2 Teachers and Fellows will meet to plan the lesson for the day. Either that morning or a previous day. Fellows will report on the meeting and the lesson in a per-visit log. Teachers will observe the fellows teaching once a month to help them reflect on their teaching. Twice in the year there will be a videotaped formal observation. Fellow will give an interactive presentation of their work to the students.

Fellow’s Work Let’s look at the log’s the Fellows have to fill out as a way to make sense of what their responsibilities are. Then meet and discuss what routine will make this happen. Also determine when the Fellow will do the Research talk. (October?) Let’s Share ideas.
