What is plot? Plot is the literary element that describes the structure of a story. It shows the a causal arrangement of events and actions within a story. Inciting incident
Exposition the start of the story; the way things are before the action starts
Inciting Incident the event that sets the story in motion
Rising Action series of incidents that build toward the greatest point of interest in the story
Climax the most intense, exciting, or important point of something
Falling Action occurs after the climax before the conclusion
Dénouement the resolution; what the characters are like at the end of the story; tying together all the threads at the end
