Guglielmo Marconi

Guglielmo Marconi Personal Life Marconi had a brother called Alfonso and a stepbrother named Luigi. On 16 March 1905 Guglielmo Marconi married Beatrice O'Brien. They had four children called Degna, Gioia, Lucia and Giulio. Sadly the Marconi’s divorced in Beatrice Marconi married her second husband named Liborio Marignoli on 3 March 1924 and had a daughter, Flaminia. On 12 June 1927 Marconi married Maria Cristina Bezzi-Scali. They had one daughter, Maria Elettra Elena Anna. Later in life, Marconi was an active Italian Fascist and an apologist for their ideology and actions such as the attack by Italian forces in Ethiopia. Marconi wanted to personally introduce in 1931 the first radio broadcast of a Pope, Pius XI, announcing at the microphone: "With the help of God, who places so many mysterious forces of nature at man's disposal, I have been able to prepare this instrument which will give to the faithful of the entire world the joy of listening to the voice of the Holy Father".

Guglielmo Marconi EarlyYears Guglielmo Marconi was born on 25 April 1874, in the city of Bologna. He was the second son of Giuseppe Marconi and his Irish wife, Annie Jameson. Marconi got his Education privately in Bologna and then in Florance in the Istituto Cavallero and, later, in Livorno. He didn’t do very well at school as a child.

Guglielmo Marconi Inventions During his early years Marconi had an intrest in Science and Electricity. Marconi began to conduct experiments, building much of his own equipment on the premises of Villa Griffone. His objective was to use radio waves to create a system of wireless telegraphy. This was not a new idea but he managed to assemble and improve a number of components, unifying and adapting them to his system. At the age of twenty he built a storm alarm made up of a battery, a coherer and an electric bell which went off if there was a lightning. He showed this experiment to his parents. His father was so impressed that he gave his son all of the money he had on him so Guglielmo could buy more materials for his invention. His invention of the wireless telegraph did not recieve any attention in Italy and Marconi moved to England in In London after many demonstrations Marconi began to recieve international attention. In 1899 the first demonstration took place in the United States. At the beginig of the 20th century Marconi began investigating the possibilities of signaling completely across the Atlantic. The first radio message to cross the Atlantic from North America was transmited on 17 December 1902.
