Leadership is the process of helping people accomplish together, what they could not as individuals. Leaders are those who get leadership going. Defining Leadership

The Problem Most church “leaders” are not gifted in leading (92% Barna)

Influencers

A Theology of Leading Exodus 18 Jesus & the 12 Eph. 4, Rom. 12, Acts 5 Type of gifting Capacity of gifting (Mat. 25; Ex. 18)

Styles & Strengths Director + decisive, strong, clear, visionary - bossy, abrasive, impatient Inspirer + motivating, charismatic, team building - disorganized, fickle, lacks plan

Styles & Strengths Strategist + plans well, thoughtful, methodical - fearful, negative, reserved Collaborator + patient, builds consensus, likable - indecisive, lazy, resistant Capacity: 1-low, 5-high

Identifying Leaders Around You 5 indicators of people with social influence 1.Notice who has followers. 2.Who leads 10 or more people outside of church? 3.Who gets things done IN TEAMS? 4.Consider who has a lot of opinions, but aren’t just negative, grouchy. 5.Who would you be willing to follow?

3 Dumb Things Non-leaders Do: 1. They try to do too much themselves… and then complain about it. 2. They alienate social influencers. 3. They relegate influencers to non-leader roles.

Leading Up Leading Your Pastor Know his/her personality styles Initiate updates on what’s going well. Bring solutions with problems. Keep the “mother ship” dominant Invite him/her to be a hero.
