Presentation transcript:

TM/WSP 5-9 Nov Group D2- Nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear Waste - QUESTIONS / DIFFICULTIES 1. Is it reasonable for a country to build a fuel fabrication facility within the country for energy security? 2. How do you advise the government on fuel supply resources and strategy? 3. Does the Agency have guidance documents on the final disposal of high level waste?

TM/WSP 5-9 Nov Group D2- - Site and supporting facilities - QUESTIONS / DIFFICULTIES 1. Is there a check list for priorities on siting – IAEA safety standards? 2. How do you cope with changes over time in determining siting characteristics – new technology to see what you couldn’t before? 3. Is there a gross estimate on the cost for siting analysis?

TM/WSP 5-9 Nov Group D2- - Environmental protection QUESTIONS / DIFFICULTIES 1. Is severe accident analysis based on design, factored into an environmental impact statement – deterministic? 2. A Member State may not have capable people in the early stage to evaluate the environmental impact statement – how to deal with this? 3. How much involvement with neighbouring nations should be undertaken regarding transboundry effects in environmental impact? 4. Important to ratify the conventions.

TM/WSP 5-9 Nov Group D2- - Emergency planning QUESTIONS / DIFFICULTIES 1. In early stages, countries do not have sufficient manpower resources to develop a comprehensive emergency plan. How to proceed? 2. Who will be responsible for making decisions – culture bias. 3. How do you develop a classification basis for emergency action levels – shelter, evac…? 4. What is the Agency role in exercises and actual events?

TM/WSP 5-9 Nov Group D Means to evaluate status 1. There may be a resource issue with self assessment in the early stages before a decision has been made to proceed with a nuclear programme? Not enough to form a NEPIO. 2. Can the Agency issue a questionnaire on how to determine where you are on 19 issues? 3. The Milestones document is very helpful even for countries with operating nuclear programmes to re- examine their infrastructure in the 19 areas.
