Physical and Chemical Changes
Heat and Temperature All particles are always in motion, even in solids. Kinetic energy= The energy of motion. Heat= a measure of the total kinetic energy.
Physical & Chemical Change. Physical Change: a change in which no new substance is produced e.g.
 Matter is classified by its chemical and physical properties.
Chemistry Vocabulary: Part 2
Section 1 Forming New Substances
Physical and Chemical Properties. Physical Physical PROPERTY: A characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing the substance into.
How do you know a chemical reaction has taken place?
Physical Properties Characteristics of a substance that can be observed without changing the substance Examples: color, shape, mass, length, and odor.
Physical and Chemical Changes Unit 2—Part II. Concept of Change Change: the act of altering a substance.
Physical and Chemical Changes. Concept of Change Change: the act of altering a substance.
Physical properties Traits that can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter. Used to observe and describe matter.

Chemical Reactions 8.5E Investigate how evidence of chemical reactions indicates that new substances with different properties are formed.
A process in which two or more substances when mixed together produce one or more new substances.
Indications of Chemical Reaction. Chemical Reaction A process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances. A process.

Indications of a Chemical Reaction. What do we look for to determine if a chemical reaction is occurring?
Chemical Reactions Cornell Notes page 139.
Mass, color, volume, and weight are examples of physical properties. A physical property can be observed or measured without changing the substance. Example:
(2.3) Chemical Reaction Evidence (p ). Chemical Reaction In a chemical reaction new substances are always formed. Can you identify a chemical reaction.
Chemical Reaction Notes. Matter is everything around you. Matter is anything made of atoms and molecules. Matter is anything that has a mass.
Evidence of Chemical Reactions Temperature Change Heat is absorbed by the substances causing the temperature to decrease Heat is released by the substances.

17.1 Chemical Reactions A chemical reaction is the process of breaking of chemical bonds in one or more substances, and the reforming of new bonds to create.
 When a substance bubbles it may be a clue that a chemical reaction is taking place.
Chemical and Physical Changes. Physical Change A Physical change is a change in a substance that does not change what the substance is.

Presentation transcript:

Evidence of Chemical Change TEKS 6.5D identify the formation of a new substance by using the evidence of a possible chemical change such as production of a gas, change in temperature, production of a precipitate, or color change. TEKS 8.5E investigate how evidence of chemical reactions indicate that new substances with different properties are formed.
