W RITING A G OOD T HESIS S TATEMENT A good thesis statement is short and simple: it should be no longer than one sentence, regardless of essay length. Good Example: Success is a result of doing the right things consistently. Bad Example: In a world full of success gurus and books about success, it becomes ever so more important to delineate the one trait that ultimately determines success: doing the right things consistently.

W RITING A G OOD T HESIS S TATEMENT A good thesis statement is limited to one main idea. Good example: The key to successful dieting is focusing on a specific goal. Bad example: T he key to successful dieting is focusing on a specific goal, which is also the key to successfully running a business and coaching a football team.

What is your role as an educator? You must form an opinion and state it clearly. Be sure you have approached your evidence fairly. Consider both sides of a controversial issue.

E SSAYS ARE A A KIND OF NON - NARRATIVE WRITING

Q UESTIONS TO ANSWER ? Whom are you going to Teach? Specifically, how will you reach the wide diversity of children that you will have in your classroom? How do you define your community of learners? How and What are going to Teach? What are your beliefs about how children learn? How will these beliefs impact your teaching? for example.... classroom management instructional strategies curriculum design assessment How do you balance the needs of individual learners with the needs of the entire class What are your goals for your students? Where are you going to Teach? How will you bring a global awareness into your classroom? What will be your relationship with the community, parents, teaching colleagues, administration?
