What is the CAHNR Career Advisor Program? What is the CAHNR Career Advisor Program? an alumni-student mentoring initiative within CAHNR a program that focuses on helping students with career development a “virtual” program that matches students and alumni in a 1:1 match an opportunity to learn about career possibilities source of valuable career advice/networking a connection with someone who has also been through the college a chance for alumni to stay connected and give back
Who can participate? Who can participate? rising juniors in the college alumni with at least 3 years of work experience
How are matches made? How are matches made? 1:1 matches are made by hand based on criteria selected by student
What are expectations for volunteers? What are expectations for volunteers? availability via phone, , etc. at least one quality interaction per month equipped to share career-specific advice program evaluation mid-year and end of program commit to one-year advising relationship
What are expectations for students? What are expectations for students? application program orientation/handbook one quality interaction per month mentee resumé attendance at CAHNR Career Night or other career fair program evaluation mid-year and end of program
What kinds of things should be discussed? What kinds of things should be discussed? student makes first contact with introduction expectations for program/preferred method of communication advisor’s career path, background, academic experience, etc. activities, major, favorite classes, career goals resumés and cover letters professional development experiences, articles, etc.
