Allowing Social Media at Work: An Unwise or a Smart Act? Suzan Abou Mjahed

Social Media Proved to be effective by making the whole world one small country. Recent studies done by Pew Research in January 2014 revealed that : Internet especially social media has no age limitation.

Social Media in the Business World Double-edged sword: Improving business A tool for distraction It all depends on how we employ it at work!!!!!!

The presence of social media at work is a must for three main reasons: 1.Communication 2.High productivity 3.Banning is a unwise act

1.Communication Between customers and employees: -easy access to information and data -minimize the need for endless s -”personal shopper” ex: Zappos customers.

2. High productivity 1.Better employees performance 2.Easy contact between workers worldwide 3.Saving money: - hiring online - no training needed

3.Banning : unwise act Presence of smartphones Unaware of it’s benefits Damage to the successful business

Refutations: 1.distraction: BUT: provide a well-engaged working environment 2. Low productivity!!! HOWEVER: employees need brainy breaks to press their restart button and be creative…… more productive

Conclusion Banning a social media at work will definitely lead to a negative impact. Successful business.: wise use of social media Leaders responsibility to create a creative well engaged environment. Leaders must develop a clear written set of guidelines that employees have to respect.
