Resolving Conflict

What do we know. Conflict will always exist as long as there are other people in our lives. Manage conflict and you can manage people.

How do we manage conflict? 1. Ignore or avoid 2. Accommodate 3. Compromise 4. Dictate 5. Collaborate

5 simple steps 1. Listen and observe 2. Identify the issue 3. Respond 4. Resolve 5. Restate

Reminders 1. Be courteous and constructive in your comments. 2. Be an active listener. 3. Listen to what is said and not the words spoken. 4. Focus on the issue not the person. 5. Be clear and direct in your response. 6. Accept differences and find mutual interests. 7. One size does not fit all. 8. Use “I” not “you.” 9. Don’t modify the message because of the reaction of the other person. 10. Resolve the issue.
