Today’s Sermon: Mark 7:24-37, “Jesus Goes Outside Of Israel To Tyre & Sidon And Performs Two Miracles There” by Pastor Jim Bomkamp

Why did Jesus go outside of Israel to the area of Tyre and Sidon with His disciples?

Possible reasons why Jesus went outside of Israel to the area of Tyre and Sidon with His disciples: 1. He was tired and He knew His disciples needed rest. 2. He wanted to teach His disciples. 3. He was reaching out to the people of Tyre and Sidon.

Jesus casts the demon out of the daughter of the Syro-Phoenician woman

Jesus’ response to the Syro- Phoenician woman whose daughter was possessed of a demon: “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs”

Why would Jesus have been mean to this Gentile woman who sought Him because her daughter was possessed by a demon? 1. Because He was called to Israel only? 2. Because He was seeking rest for Himself and the disciples? 3. Because He was in Gentile territory? 4. He wanted to test the woman’s faith?

Jesus’ words to this Syro- Phoenician woman weren’t as harsh as they seem at first glance…

The Syro-Phoenician woman’s response to Jesus: “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children’s crumbs”

A Commentary Critical And Explanatory sort of paraphrases what this woman replied to Jesus: “One crumb of power and grace from Thy table shall cast the devil out of my daughter”

The healing of the deaf and dumb man in Decapolis

The demoniac among the tombs out of whom Jesus cast the legion of demons: Mark 5:19-20, “19 And He did not let him, but He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.”

Why did Jesus use the technique He used here in healing this deaf and dumb man?

The extent of this incredible miracle: “he began speaking plainly”

The response of the populace: “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak”
