New developments related to ISIC Ralf Becker UN Statistics Division August 2015

ISIC Rev.4  Developed between 2000 and 2008  Published in 2008  Implementation issues and general problems have been monitored  Main question: How long can the classification remain unchanged?

Main conclusion of the EGM 2015  Expert Group has been monitoring ISIC-related discussions Recent issues have been evaluated at the 201 and 2015 meetings of the EG  EG agreed not to undertake a revision of ISIC !! This provides stability for future work

Issues raised at the EGM 2015  current issues under investigation/ proposed: FGPs Retail trade  minor issues: boundaries around health clarifications of head offices and holding companies Internet activities (often related to publishing and sales)

Issues raised at the EGM 2015  Most of these (except for trade) will most likely be addressed through clarifications, but not structural changes  It is important to distinguish between issues that require a change in ISIC and those that would be addressed if a change was taking place

Which of these issues are important for countries in the region?

Other ongoing issues  Boundaries between agriculture and manufacturing  Boundaries between manufacturing and trade  Online activities (sales, publishing)  Identifying activities through products
