WHEN SHOULD YOU APPLY TO SCHOOLS? NOW! Colleges, universities, community college, tech and career schools All applications should be finalized before Thanksgiving break (November 21).

SAT/ACT FEE WAIVERS Students who are participating in the free or reduced lunch program are eligible for SAT and/or ACT fee waivers. See your counselor if this applies to you.

SAT/ACT ACCOMMODATIONS Students with an IEP or a 504 Plan may be eligible for accommodations on the SAT and/or ACT. Accommodations are typically extra time. See your counselor for details. Documentation needs to be completed well in advance of testing.

WEBSITE/NEWSLETTERS The guidance office website and the monthly newsletters are good resources for you. Go to High School website and click on 12 th grade Newsletter.

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS Ask 2 teachers to write letters of recommendation for you Give them plenty of notice Use the “Recommendation Request” Forms available on the high school website: “Counselor’s Corner” Forms also available in the counseling office.

ESSAY Write a solid personal statement or essay; whatever the school requires Ask an English teacher to review it This essay may help when applying for scholarships

Requesting Transcripts Go to Click “Sign up” and enter personal information. Add Montour High School to your account. Select the college/university/NCAA where transcript is to be sent. Review your selection and information. Do not request transcripts through Parchment for schools that you have applied to using the Common Application.

SENDING Counselors will receive your request via . Transcripts will be sent either electronically or by US mail within 5 school days of the request. If there is a supplemental/counselor form, you must bring that form to your counselor. The supplemental/counselor form MUST be mailed with your transcript.

TURN-AROUND TIME PLEASE do not submit any requests the day before a holiday! YOU are responsible for mailing ALL other materials (application, recommendation letters, essay). WATCH SCHOOL DEADLINES and plan ahead!

SCHOLARSHIPS You are responsible for finding scholarships. There are many website search engines you can use. Check the “Scholarship Drawer” in the guidance office regularly for scholarships that are sent to our school. Lists are posted and updated on Counselor’s Corner and the bulletin board outside the Counseling Suite.

FINANCIAL AID The guidance office will be planning a financial aid night/mini college fair for parents and students. More details will follow. Check the website, newsletters, and listen for the announcement, and Alert Now message for details.
