Where to Find Me Here, in this room: 241 Periods for class: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 Prep Period (7th) and 8 th Period Phone:

Materials Needed Text book (handed out soon) Pencil Calculator capable of scientific notation Spiral Notebook for lab write-ups Notebook for notes (even though all notes and guided notes (when possible) are online) Large 3-ring binder (2”+)

Grading Total points for semester ◦ Homework ◦ Tests/quizzes ◦ Lab assignments ◦ At least 2 formal lab assignments during the year (1 each semester) ◦ Weekly Participation Points continue through each quarter and keep building

To Pass To pass= 60% 59.9%=F Aim for higher than 60%

Tests/Quizzes Quizzes given very often ◦ Check on your progress and understanding. ◦ Keep up with the material and seek help ASAP Tests every 2 to 3 weeks. ◦ Never given on Mondays. ◦ I will let you know a week in advance of test dates and remind you every day until test day. It will also be posted on my website. ◦ No excuse not to be ready

Homework Given nightly. From me or periodically from text. Do it. We will check it the day after it was assigned unless otherwise noted.

Success Come to class Do the homework nightly Follow instructions the first time Be prepared for class Choose your lab partner wisely Communicate with me ◦ 7 th and 8 th period, before school, after class ◦

Safety Chemistry is an experimental science Must pass a safety exam before you can enter the first lab Goggles worn at all times. ◦ Two strikes and you’re out for that current lab and you will receive a zero. ◦ Goggles off the next lab, out for current lab and the next lab with zeros for both ◦ Still can’t where goggles?? Maybe you need to be in a different class.  Did I mention referrals for each of those?

Rules Rule #1: Respect ◦To me ◦To others ◦School property ◦To yourself Pay Attention! Page 2-4 in syllabus ◦Read these carefully ◦FOLLOW THEM

Cell Phones If I see it or notice you are using it ◦1st warning If I see it or notice it again ◦I will take the phone and you will receive a Wednesday/Saturday session If I see it or notice you using it during a test???! ◦Don’t do this.  This is considered cheating.  EVEN AFTER YOU ARE DONE! ◦Zero on test ◦Further disciplinary procedures you do NOT want to deal with.

More success Do assigned readings (not required but supplement what’s covered in class) and outline the section(s) Reread your notes each night. Write down questions as you read and ask me the next day. Go back through power points and write down questions to ask the next day either with the class or one-on-one Do the homework. The ability to review is a great tool to have.

My Website ◦ Lectures: download as powerpoint or.pdf ◦ HW Packets: download as.pdf if you lose yours ◦ Weekly schedules/assignments ◦ Chemistry help links ◦ Other fun/interesting stuff
