Apollo 11 July 16-24, 1969 Apollo 11 was the first mission where a human landed on the surface of the moon and returned safely. While on the moon, the astronauts completed experiments, took photographs, retrieved lunar samples, and won the “Space Race.”

All of the mission objectives were accomplished. This mission placed a man on the moon and returned him safely. They also retrieved lunar rocks. It accelerated technology development in the United States. A “surprise” accomplishment was winning the Space Race. Mission Accomplishments and Failures Apollo 11 July 16-24, 1969

Apollo 11 July 16-24, 1969 Neil Armstrong – Wapakoneta, Ohio “Buzz” Aldrin – Montclair, New Jersey Michael Collins – Rome, Italy Training Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science, Engineering, Physical Science, or Mathematics. 3 years in a career using one of those skills. Pass a Class II Space Physical. (Correctable eyesight to 20/20 vision, Blood Pressure 140/90 sitting, Height between 58.5 and 76 inches.)

With Apollo 11, the United States won the Space Race. The United States succeeded in putting a man on the moon and returning him safely. The Soviet Union could not compete with this, and gave up the Space Race. This action put the United States ahead of the Soviet Union technologically.
