Presentation transcript:

 I chose this to be my topic because I noticed how many teen pregnancies there were in my school. I really love working with kids and so I figured this topic would be a great opportunity to research teenagers and reasons as to why they are having children.

 Over the years, more and more teens are faced with the challenge of having a baby while in school.  According to Child & Family News, “Teen mothers are 50% less likely to finish high school and only 1/3 receives their high school diplomas”(Cox).

 Most high school programs are completely free for those who qualify, unlike traditional daycares.  Not having to pay for daycare, helps keep kids in school and worry free from having to work.  The chances of moving ahead in the workforce is less likely to happen when the person does not have a high school diploma or a type of college degree.

 About 820,000 teens in the United States become pregnant each year.  That means 34% of teenagers have at least one pregnancy before they turn 20.  Close to 25% of teen mothers have a second child within two years of their first birth.

 More and more schools are beginning to realize that in school daycares are a necessity.  Teenagers cannot afford to pay for daycare, especially when most of them do not have jobs.  More than 400,000 babies are born to teenage moms each year, according to Guttmacher Institute Study.

 Finding articles to find information about my topic was a major obstacle. I could not find many articles that had new information. Most articles I found had all of the same information as the last ones.

 I had an amazing teacher that helped me find information that I could put into my research paper.  Writing comes very easily to me so putting my paper together wasn’t hard at all.

 My research paper was about whether or not high schools should provide a daycare for the students with kids.  My product was volunteering at a high school with a daycare.  They are related because I volunteered at the daycare at the school and it showed that having it there was a huge help for the teachers at South Johnston.

 I learned that I want to continue learning more about children and that I would love to start a career working with them. I don’t necessarily want to work in the daycare setting anymore but I do know that I want to work with kids.

 Thank you for your time, do you have any questions?
