Macbeth Act I Scenes i thru vii synopsis

Scene i Three witches predicted the future/made a cantation about Macbeth. They used a hang man’s noose, a hand with a dagger and blood.

Scene ii King Duncan learns of the brave battle fought by Macbeth and Banquo Macdonald (thane of cawdor) is captured and charged with treason for leading a revolt against King Duncan King Duncan gives the tile Thane of Cawdor to Macbeth

Scene iii Macbeth and Banquo encounter the weird sisters. The sisters give Macbeth three prophecies: Thane of Glamis Thane of Cawdor King They give Banquo three prophecies also: Less than Macbeth but greater Not as happy but happier Father of Kings but not a king himself Macbeth and Banquo agree not to tell anyone about this encounter Ross arrives at the camp to award Macbeth with the Title of Thane of Cawdor bringing the second prophecy to fruition.

Scene iv King Duncan thanks Macbeth and Banquo for their bravery in battle King Duncan announces that his first son, Malcolm is now Prince of Cumberland Macbeth is very disappointed at this announcement and leaves to announce to his wife Lady Macbeth, that King Duncan is coming to dine with them for the night. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth devise their plan to kill King Duncan

Scene v Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth detailing his encounter with the weird sisters and their 3 prophecies as well as announcing he is now Thane of Cawdor Lady Macbeth expresses concern that Macbeth is not manly and cruel enough to do whatever is necessary to make the prophecy of King come true. Macbeth arrives home to tell Lady Macbeth King Duncan is coming to stay with them tonight. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth devise their plan to kill King Duncan

Scene vi King Duncan arrives at Macbeth’s castle and mentions how pleasant it appears. Lady Macbeth greets him and they enter the castle.

Scene vii Macbeth starts to question whether he should carry out the plan to kill King Duncan Lady Macbeth scolds and mocks him for not being man enough to carry out the plan. She convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan.
