Lesson Opening What multiplication equation does this array name?

Model with Arrays How can I use an array to solve a division problem?

Christine wants to plant vegetables. She has 24 vegetables and wants to put them in 3 rows. How many vegetables will go in each row?

I know I can use division to solve this problem because I am separating something (vegetables) into 3 groups (3 rows).

Christine wants to plant vegetables. She has 24 vegetables and wants to put them in 3 rows. How many vegetables will go in each row? Make an array. Get out 24 tiles. Start to arrange them in 3 rows.

Christine wants to plant vegetables. She has 24 vegetables and wants to put them in 3 rows. How many vegetables will go in each row? Since there are 8 tiles in each row there will be 8 vegetables in each row. 3 8

Your Turn Take 12 tiles. Make as many arrays as you can. Draw each array on your grid paper and label it with a division equation.

Your Turn On your grid paper, draw the array, label it with a division equation, and find the quotient for each problem below ÷ 6 = ___5. 16 ÷ 4 = ___ 2.15 ÷ 5 = ___6. 25 ÷ 5 = ___ 3.___ = 6 ÷ ÷ 10 = ___ 4.___ = 20 ÷ ÷ 2 = ___

How can I use an array to solve a division problem?

Exit Ticket Match the equation with the array, then find the quotient. 16 ÷ 4 = _____ _____ = 12 ÷ 6 _____ = 16 ÷ 2
