Polar Bear By C. P.

Vital Statistics The average male polar weighs up to1,595 pounds, while the average female can only get up to 548 pounds. The average polar bear has a length from 7 feet 9 inches to 9 feet 9 inches.

Vital Statistics The average polar bears number of young is 1-4 usually 2. The polar bear average birth interval is 3-4 years. The polar bears typical diet is seals especially the ringed seal. The lifespan of a polar bear can get up to 30 years usually years.

Profile The polar bear has a 4 inch layer of fat that absorbs heat under it layer of black skin. The polar bear depends on it’s fur to survive. It has a thick under fur covered with long guard hairs. When wet the hair mats together to keep the bear dry. Modern scientist have not ever made a material warmer than the polar bears fur.

Profile While in water the polar bear paws let it swim better, while on land the paws work like snowshoes. The polar bear has 42 teeth good for piercing flesh. If the polar bears ears stuck out more they would freeze.

Profile The polar bears fur is really colorless but some of the sun’s ray reflect the color white but most of the sun’s rays go though the hollow hairs and get trapped by the black skin and holds heat.

Habitat The polar bear lives on the ice surrounding the Artic. The polar bear migrates because of change of ice from summer to winter most go to the same place year to after year. The polar bear moves to northern Canada in the winter in the summer the polar bear moves north to stay on the ice.

Behavior The polar bear does not live in a group except breeding and with their young. The polar bear communicates by physical contact.

Hunting The polar bear hunts by spying on a seal, then approaches slowly, then surprises the seal and then the polar bear eats it.

Conservation The polar bear was hunted tremendously from , but in 1972 the Artic treaty was passed that said you could not hunt the polar bear from the sky or sea. The reason polar bears were hunted was for their fur to make coats and clothes. The polar bear depends on the conservation of the environment of the Artic. The polar bear is endangered animal.

Other info The polar bears scientific name is Ursus maritimus The polar bear stays with it mom 4-5 years.
