Hepatitis C in Egypt Seif Tamer Ahmed Naser

What is it? Liver disease caused by Hepatitis C virus Can range from mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong condition leading to Cirrhosis or Cancer of the Liver. (Hepatocellular carcinoma/6%) About 150 million people chronically infected every year. (mortality: ) Can be treated using antiviral medicines (many people don’t get treated for it because they don’t know that they have it) There is no vaccine for hepatitis C.

How it’s spread Spread by blood Use of an instrument or dental equipment that has already been used on another patient (main reason in Egypt) Injections Being born to a Hepatitis C-infected mother

...

Status in Egypt Considered a public health emergency 14.7% of the population in Egypt is 11,466,000, and that is the amount of people who have been infected with the virus. (70,000 under 15) 6 in every 1000 get infected every year

How to stay safe Don’t share personal belongings such as razors, toothbrushes, or cosmetic care products with people around you Diabetic people should not share their blood sugar monitoring equipment. Only visit formal health care institutions to ensure safety measures and precautions have been taken

Appearance
