Agenda Message: this Agenda Message: CDA II is this Friday, November 20 th. Last weeks E.Q.’s & Warm-Ups are due TODAY. Standard: Standard: SS7E6 The student will explain how voluntary trade benefits buyers and sellers in Southwest Asia and how specialization encourages trade between countries. Essential Question for Monday; 11/16/15: Essential Question for Monday; 11/16/15: What trade barrier does OPEC use to achieve its dual goals of controlling the production and price of oil on the world market? Warm-Up Warm-Up: What is the definition for economic Specialization? TODAY WE WILL: 1. International Trade, Specialization, Trade Barriers

E.Q. Answer for Monday November 16 th : OPEC uses sets quotas (limits) on the daily production of oil and thereby controls the price of oil on the world market. Warm-Up: Specialization is a concept that means the products a country makes best and that are in demand on the world market. This is another way to build a strong economy and to earn money to buy items that cannot be made locally.

Agenda Message: Agenda Message: CDA II is this Friday, November 20 th. Use your Study Guides, graphic organizers, worksheets, and index cards to Prepare for Success! Standard: Standard: Explain why international trade requires a system for exchanging currencies between nations. E.Q. Tuesday; 11/17/15: E.Q. Tuesday; 11/17/15: Why does International Trade require a system for exchanging currencies between nations? Warm Up Warm Up: Briefly explain why nations trade with one another. TODAY WE WILL: 1. Foreign Exchange Rates/Exercise 2. Environmental Issues

E.Q. Answer for Tuesday; 11/17/15: Each country has their own currency or money. Different currencies have varying values. In international trade, countries must have a system to exchange their currencies with those used by other countries around the world. This system ensures that no one gets cheated in trades. Warm Up Answer: No Country is completely self-sufficient (meaning it has all the products, goods and services that it needs), as a result, countries trade with one another for those items they do not or cannot produce themselves.

Agenda Message: STUDY!!! Agenda Message: CDA II is this Friday, November 20 th. Prepare for Success! STUDY!!! Standard: Standard: Explain why international trade requires a system for exchanging currencies between nations. E.Q. Wednesday; 11/18/15: E.Q. Wednesday; 11/18/15: How has the uneven distribution of water led to conflicts between countries in SWA? Warm Up Warm Up: How does the use of chemical fertilizers lead to water pollution? TODAY WE WILL: 1. Water Issues leading to conflicts

E.Q. Answer for Wednesday November 18 th : Water is a critical resource in Southwest Asia, both as a source of life and as a route for trade. Because the Tigris and Euphrates rivers run through more than one country, access to the water has led to many political conflicts in recent years. In addition, several countries have built dams along their portion of these rivers, to create lakes for irrigation and to generate hydroelectric power. Each dam cuts down on the amount of water available to the countries further downstream causing conflicts. Warm-Up: A final environmental problem comes with irrigation. 1. Irrigated land usually needs chemical fertilizers. 2. Repeated use of fertilizer eventually causes salts to build up in the soil, making it hard to grow anything.

Agenda Message: CDA II is TOMORROW. Make sure you are a HUGE Success by STUDYING!!! Standard: Standard: Explain how water pollution & the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation and drinking water. E.Q. Thursday, November 19, 2015: E.Q. Thursday, November 19, 2015: How has the discovery of oil in certain countries of SWA affected their economic development? Warm Up: Warm Up: Why isn’t desalination used by more countries in SWA? TODAY WE WILL: 1. CDA II Review

Answer for Thursday November 19 th : Countries who have oil have become incredibly rich and as a result have been able to improve the standard of living of its citizens. Warm-Up Warm-Up: Desalination plants are expensive to build. Countries that do not have oil as a natural resource cannot afford the cost.

Agenda Message: CDA II is TODAY! Standard: Explain how water pollution & the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation and drinking water. E.Q. Friday November 20, 2015: What are the positives and negatives regarding the use of irrigation in agriculture? Warm Up: List the three types of trade barriers and provide a brief 2-3 word definition for each. TODAY WE WILL: 1. CDA II

E.Q. Answer for Friday, Nov. 20 th : Irrigation, bringing water to dry land, requires the use of chemical fertilizers. Water supplies have been contaminated by the chemicals through runoff from the fields. Warm-Up: Tariff – Is a tax Quota – Sets a limit Embargo – Stops trade altogether
