Power, Review Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Wednesday, 1/20  On your warm-up respond to the following:  Take out your power practice problems from Friday.  Refer to problem #8 and respond to the following:  What is Bart’s PE when he reaches the top of the stairs? What is Bart’s ΔKE? Could you have used this information to calculate Bart’s work instead of making work a two step problem? Upcoming dates:  Friday, 1/22 – Work, power, energy quiz  Friday, 1/22 – review due when the late bell rings  Monday, 1/25 – Work, power, energy test.  Monday, 1/25 – last day to turn in any missing assignments for work, power, energy unit. See my website for additional important dates.

Warm-up Review Bart runs up a 2.91 meter high flight of stairs at a constant velocity in 2.15 seconds. If Bart’s mass is 65.9 Kg, determine the work which he did and his power rating.

Power Lab Objective: Each group will plan how they can produce the most power. The most powerful group wins the competition!

Name/Team Roles – First Steps  Record your group name  Designate people for the following roles:  Runner (this is the person who’s work and power will be calculated)  Recorder (person who will write the data down)  Counter (this person will keep track of how many reps the runner makes)  Timer (someone to keep track of time and tell the runner to stop).

Plan your strategy!  Convert the team runners weight from pounds to Newtons (see link on my webpage).  Decide on the number of steps that you will ascend (choices include 2, 6, or 12). This will determine your total displacement.  Determine the total time your runner will ascend (and descend) the steps (choices include 15s, 30s, or 60s). Remember your goal is to be the most powerful!  Have your Mrs. Cheyne sign off on your roles and plan.

Record team name and basics

Collect lab data

Calculate power to determine winner!  Complete your calculations

Winning team announcement!

Complete Summary/Bonus Question  After your group has completed the summary/bonus question do the following:  Make sure all group members names are on the lab write up sheet.  Staple all of you lab documents together and turn in to the black tray.

Cool Down  Is there a concept for the mechanical energy unit you are feeling ‘muddy’ about?  List two things you need to do in order to be successful on Tuesday’s test?

Review  Review is due when the late bell rings on Friday.  If your review is a 100% complete you will earn five additional points.
