What is Al-Qaeda? Created after soviets evaded and were driven out. Created to enforce jihad. (Jihad- the duty of Muslims to maintain the religion) Arabs volunteered to create Al-Qaeda. Later started to recruit members.
Leaders Abdullah- enforced defense and offense of Al-Qaeda and raised money for the organization. Osama Bin Laden- Head leader, funded most of the organization’s needs, mentored by Abdullah. Ayman al-Zawahiri- most recent leader, don’t know much about him
Acts of Terrorism First attack in 1992 First attack was bombing of hotel in Somalia meant to kill U.S service men First attack on the world trade center was in 1993 placed bombs in the parking garages below the buildings Also in 1993 Al-Qaeda attacked 18 U.S soldiers also in Somalia and killed everyone of them In 2001 Al-Qaeda flew two planes into the world trade center and flew one plane into the pentagon
