WELCOME TO THE HEALTHCARE UPDATE FOR OCTOBER 2005 PRESENTING NEWS ABOUT STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS

Grace All children touch us in different ways but Grace’s struggle with Pneumonia went on for many days and she became extremely exhausted. She touched all our hearts as we shared in her struggle. A hug here a cuddle there! She also showed she is a little battler and improved enough to go home to Hope Haven and is now giving warm smiles and chuckles to all the staff there.

This bright and likeable couple (both Nurses) from Australia, spent 6 weeks at Healthcare and quickly discovered the local cuisine - in between doing Risk Assessments and Training Modules. Greg and Michelle Greg and Michelle were able to assess the hearing of this very lively little boy. Wu is suspected of having autism and is certainly a challenge even under close supervision. He managed to get all the forms and stationery out of the File Drawers to his right, in about 2 minutes flat!

Lisa (left) stands beside the Lab supplies from Worldwide Lab (Michigan) that were brought in by the North West Medical Team. For once, Mary, our Lab Technologist, was speechless with gratitude. Lisa and Monica were able to conduct patient consultations and visit our children at Hephzibah Orphanage. Monica (above) unpacks the medical supplies kindly donated by the North West Medical Organization in the United States LISA AND MONICA

Colin I n spite of having bronchiolitis and needing some expert attention from Nurse Rachel, Colin remained a real lively little chap. He “entertained” us for a few days in October before happily heading back to Hope Haven. Not before he made a few friends here at Healthcare however.

In between consultations Dr David (from Australia) brought a new dimension to Emergency First Aid by presenting an Interactive Training Video to Healthcare staff Patients and staff alike commented favourably on his quiet manner and competence in many technical matters

Solomon re-visited You may recall that Solomon came to us from the Xian train station with a huge tumour in one eye – which had to be removed. The operation has significantly improved his facial appearance.  However, a smaller tumour was discovered which was subsequently removed by Dr Farhan our volunteer Neurosurgeon. Tests on this have been organised.

Healthcare thanks you for your ongoing support.  Current needs are: Ways to promote the development of our Rural Health Project (to assist poorer communities west of Xian).
