Projects Finish projects

Reading Turn to page 28 and get out three sheets of paper We’ll read pages and take a few notes.

Internal conflict Character vs. Self Example: Joe loves Daisy, but his family hates her. He wants to marry her, but his family said it’ll disown her if they get married. Joe must decide what to do.

External Conflict Character vs. Society Susan is a good worker but works in a time when women aren’t treated as well as men. She doesn’t get promoted even though she works hard and is good at her job.

External Conflict Character vs. Forces of Nature Josh is hiking a mountain in Asia when a snowstorm hits. The snow blinds him, and he’s lost. He doesn’t know where to go.

External Conflict Character vs. Character Harry Potter has an ongoing feud with Lord Voldemort. They battle throughout the stories/books and finally battle to the death.

CORE Write the type of conflict for each situation on a sheet of paper and give me a reason for your answer. Put your answers in the box before you leave. President Obama doesn’t get along with Mitt Romney. They get into a fist fight at a presidential debate. Water starts to rise in David’s house during a flood, and he’s trapped. Erin loves living in Nashville but gets a great job offer in New York. She doesn’t know what to do. Josh Gibson is a great baseball player in the 1930s and 1940s but doesn’t get the chance to play in the major leagues because he’s an African-American.

Assignment Read The Ransom of the Chief, which starts on page 52. Answer No. 7 on page 63 after reading the story. The assignment is due on Friday.
