We started with a question:

We started with a ‘as we head towards the year 2020, what questions should we be asking as we plan how to best work with talented young EU musicians?’

What skills do orchestral musicians need for 21 st century audiences & society? How should we train the next generation of musical leaders? How do we attract new audiences? How do we deepen the experience of current audiences? What about employment and jobs in Europe? How do we relate our European experience to a cultural context that is increasingly Global? What would a model that was transferable to other sectors look like? How do we persuade “non- audiences”? ( non audiences = audiences who actively avoid classical music)

Towards 2020 Skilling Musicians & Engaging Audiences in Europe’s Orchestral Sector With these questions in mind we then asked, ‘what programme values do we believe in?’

Towards 2020 Skilling Musicians & Engaging Audiences in Europe’s Orchestral Sector Programme Values YOUTH Engaging with Young People FUTURE Building for the Future PARTNERSHIPLearning how to Work well Together DIVERSITY Expanding Opportunity SKILLS Teaching Relevant Skills EXCELLENCE Facilitating Excellence in all Activity
