What Would You Do? Sarah has an assignment due by 11:59pm on Monday night. Today is Friday, so she figures she has all weekend to do her work. Monday morning, Sarah finally starts her assignment. She works on it when she does not have class and finishes by 10pm. Since she still has almost 2 hours to turn it in, Sarah decides to watch her favorite movie. It is now 11:30pm. Sarah cannot log on to turn in her assignment because her internet is down. What would you do in this situation?

Discussion Time!  You will be in group breakout rooms  Please participate!  In your breakout room:  Read the Scenario  Discuss options student has  Type the options on the whiteboard  Choose one person to present  Watch the time!  3 minutes

Scenario 1 Thomas has to miss class because he has a doctor’s appointment. His teacher advises him to watch the class recording later that day. Instead of watching the recording, Thomas asks a fellow classmate what he missed during the session. Thomas comes to the next class and learns there is a pop quiz on last session’s topic. He does not know any answers because his classmate did not explain them. What should Thomas do?

Scenario 2 Julie cannot understand why she keeps failing quizzes. She takes notes, studies, does all the readings, and watches recordings from classes she misses. Julie cannot afford to fail the course, but she does not know what else she can do at this point. What should Julie do?

Scenario 3 Jack is working feverishly to finish his final project. He has a great topic selected and an amazing presentation in the works. He has 3 more days to work on it before the assignment is due. Two days before the assignment is due, Jack’s computer crashes and all his work is lost. What should Jack do?

Scenario 4 Mary absolutely hates writing papers. She can never find what to say in them. An essay is due next week, and Mary is panicking about what to do. In desperation, she searches for a paper online about the topic. Mary finds an excellent essay, downloads it, and tries to pass it off as her own. She changes a few words here, adds her name there, and gives it a new title. Mary’s teacher contacts her a few days after she turns it in and says she knows that Mary’s paper has been plagiarized. What should Mary do?

Scenario 5 Fred’s father works for a company that has them travelling a lot of the time. Fred tries to keep up with classwork, but he often has to pack up without notice and be on the road for long hours. Report cards come out, and Fred’s father asks why he is only passing two classes. Fred admits that he misses a lot of class time with the travelling and has problems making up the work. Fred’s father cannot quit his job, but Fred cannot afford to keep failing. What should Fred do?

Inside the Personal Computer Objectives: 1)I can understand what programs and files I need for this class. 2)I can work with my peers to determine what to do to succeed in class.
